Cal v. Arizona State 10.4.08 Second Quarter

Since many, if not all, of our Marshawnthuasiasts will be away from computers during the game, we are putting up the Open Threads early.  If you are confused as to why there are like 5 empty posts all of a sudden, START WITH THE FIRST QUARTER THREAD AND WORK YOUR WAY UP!  Use this one to discuss the Second Quarter action for the Cal v. ASU game on 10.4.08.  Here is the PreGame/First Quarter thread.

For those watching the game on TV and commenting live, don't forget to vote in our Insta-Poll.  This will help capture the feelings of the electorate (i.e. Cal fans) as the game progresses.  Were we really depressed after the first quarter only to feel great again by the 3rd?  Now, historians can pour over this data.  Which I'm sure they will.  That's just what historians do!

We've been posting a lot recently.  So, if you missed anything, look at our Post CSU thoughts, our CSU photos, photos, and more photos, the Fantasy Week In Review, and our debate over Top 25 rankings.  Also, the Roundtable and Conspiracy Post and Eating the Enemy.  Plus, the Q+A with House Of Sparky and my pathetic attempt at analysis

Yeah

Other than the first three quarters of Maryland, rock solid.

We don’t have to do anything tricky against this weak OL… they just buckle… it’s the zone and their WRs we have to worry about.

by danzig on Oct 4, 2008 1:19 PM PDT up reply actions

that was a terrible throw. Should have been picked if Boateng wasn’t so wide open.

by DougOLis on Oct 4, 2008 1:23 PM PDT up reply actions

Woohoo! TD!

Nice throw there by Longshore

by Tizoc on Oct 4, 2008 1:25 PM PDT reply actions

Well, now it's Arizona State's move

This is usually the moment where they score 10-14 unanswered points. If we stop them we’re in good shape.

If Nate is starting so we can start fast... WE CERTAINLY GOT THAT!

But can we put in Kevin so we can finish strong???

… I have a feeling we’re going to see Kevin seal off this game.

Nate is doing what he does well.. kill it in the 1H…

Kevin might be brought in to do what he does well… rack up points in the 2H…

…. I wouldn’t mind either at this point, but I"m worried about Nate in the 2H.

by danzig on Oct 4, 2008 1:27 PM PDT reply actions

seems like a logical approach

even I know that Longshore is not at his best in the 4th. And I’m no Tedford.

by DC Trojan on Oct 4, 2008 1:29 PM PDT up reply actions

That’s exactly what’s running through my head right now. Don’t get me wrong, I am thrilled for Longshore (and for our team) but I personally sort of expected a good first half from Longshore. Historically his problems seem to be accentuated in the second half.

by Mister Pie on Oct 4, 2008 1:29 PM PDT up reply actions

The pick-six is coming.

by The Hombre on Oct 4, 2008 1:30 PM PDT up reply actions

Call Tedford on his cell ASAP!

by BearsNecessity on Oct 4, 2008 1:29 PM PDT up reply actions

We were worried about Herring

I’m more concerned about Nance. He’s getting good penetration.

by BearsNecessity on Oct 4, 2008 1:31 PM PDT reply actions

Eh

Never mind. Both are getting good penetration.

by BearsNecessity on Oct 4, 2008 1:32 PM PDT up reply actions

NICE OPEN FIELD...

tackle… he’s staring to feel it now.. staring to get that HS cockiness. nice.

by danzig on Oct 4, 2008 1:32 PM PDT reply actions

ASU loves to get nice mid-yard gains to get 3rd and short situations.

by BearsNecessity on Oct 4, 2008 1:34 PM PDT reply actions

bad coverage by SYD with no help.

by danzig on Oct 4, 2008 1:35 PM PDT reply actions

Vereen is looking like a more consistent, between the tackles, back than Best.

by The Hombre on Oct 4, 2008 1:40 PM PDT reply actions

Now let’s pick apart their zone!!!

by danzig on Oct 4, 2008 1:42 PM PDT reply actions

cocktail hour, ladies and gentlemen

social obligations call, good luck with the rest of the game.

by DC Trojan on Oct 4, 2008 1:42 PM PDT reply actions

Vereen

I think Best is too fast, isn’t patient with his blocks.

by BleedinBlue on Oct 4, 2008 1:43 PM PDT reply actions

Notre Dame 21, 'Furd 7

Oh look, a battle between two of my least favorite schools.

by BearsNecessity on Oct 4, 2008 1:45 PM PDT reply actions

Almost a safety

We’ll get one, one of these days.

by BearsNecessity on Oct 4, 2008 1:51 PM PDT reply actions

Move bemoll or Chedle over… anybody except norris… weren’t they working in fisher this week? I mean comon.. he almost killed us single handedly at maryland.

by danzig on Oct 4, 2008 1:58 PM PDT up reply actions

Ugh. This feels all too familiar.

by The Hombre on Oct 4, 2008 1:55 PM PDT reply actions

Guard the sidelines

The clock damnit. CONSUME THE CLOCK.

by BearsNecessity on Oct 4, 2008 2:01 PM PDT reply actions

Why wasn’t that intentional grounding? He was in the pocket and no one was there.

by DougOLis on Oct 4, 2008 2:02 PM PDT reply actions

I think I'm happy with this

17-7 is pretty good, considering the injuries.

by BearsNecessity on Oct 4, 2008 2:07 PM PDT reply actions

Then again

ASU only gets stronger as the game wears on.
